MANILA - Sexy actress Meg Imperial recalled her humble beginnings in the world of show business and how she often accepted roles with little to no lines just to make ends meet.
In an interview on "Tapatan Ni Tunying " aired Thursday, the 21-year-old admitted that she used to earn as little as P300 for her roles as an extra in various television shows.
"Siyempre, nag-start ako as passerby lang, tapos nagsikap ako hangga't nagkaroon ng roles, lines. 'Yung mga 300 [pesos] na dati mong kinikita dati, tumataas ng 1,500 [pesos]," she said.
Imperial shared how she bragged about her role as an extra in the hit drama anthology, "Maalala Mo Kaya." She said: "Pinagmamalaki ko 'yun kahit passerby lang ako."
The actress also admitted that there were several times when the she almost gave up on show business because her career was not playing out the way she wanted it to.
"Dumating talaga sa point na yun. Na parang hihingi kami sa mga kamaganak namin, hihingi kami sa mga kakilala [ng pera]. And minsan dadating na lang 'yung mga maniningil sa bahay. So lahat tini-try ko. Kasi parang wala ka ng matatakbuhan eh," she said."May mga times na sasabihin niya [her mother] na tumigil na ako kasi walang project eh. Pero pag may tumawag sa amin, go agad. Wala naman masama sa pag-try eh," she added.

BIG BREAK
Imperial, who moved to ABS-CBN last year, was then given her first huge break in the television industry with a lead role for the afternoon drama, "Moon of Desire."
Asked about why she accepted such a daring role, Imperial said: "Nung naguumpisa ako, talagang conservative ako. Dahil lang sa gusto ko lang talaga 'yung trabaho, at gusto ko rin naman mag-evolve para maiba yung ginagawa, kaya tiniry ko siya."
She said, with her newfound success, they can now afford her family a new house, pay for her brother's education, and support her plans to buy her own car.
Imperial, however, added she is not willing go a step further and accept more 'sexy' roles in the future. "Hanggang doon na lang muna ako. Kasi doon pa lang nahihirapan na ako," she said.
Asked to rate the afternoon drama, which also stars Ellen Adarna and JC de Vera, she said: "9 kasi maganda 'yung story at casting pero hindi ko siya ginawa na perfect 10 kasi I know na mayroon pang room for improvement sa akin."
